An electric longboard tour is a guided ride on a motorised board controlled by a handheld remote, so you steer and brake without ever pushing with your foot. In Madeira, Eboard Madeira Adventures runs two private routes on 3,000W all-terrain boards: a coastal ride from Praia Formosa to Câmara de Lobos and a mountain ride above the clouds.
Eboard Madeira Adventures is a small, locally run tour operator based in Funchal, Madeira, offering private guided electric longboard tours. We run two routes — a coastal ride from Praia Formosa to Câmara de Lobos, and a mountain ride down the ER103 through the Funchal Ecological Park. No skating experience is required on either.
We ride 3,000W dual-motor all-terrain electric longboards — premium boards built for range, torque and stability on real roads rather than skateparks. You control speed and braking with a handheld remote, which is what makes them accessible to complete beginners within minutes of your first training session with Eboard Madeira Adventures.
Electric longboard touring is a rare category in Madeira. Most guided adventure activities on the island are jeep tours, e-bike tours, canyoning or boat trips. An e-board tour is closer to snowboarding on asphalt: you carve the road rather than pedal or ride in a vehicle, which is why most guests describe it as unlike anything else they did here.
No. Most of our guests have never stood on a board before, and that is the normal starting point here. Every Eboard Madeira Adventures tour begins with a full training session on safe, quiet ground, and we only head out once you feel comfortable. Your guide sets the pace around you, not the other way around.
Most complete beginners feel steady within 15 to 20 minutes of the training session. Because the board is remote-controlled, you are not learning to push, kick or carve at speed — you are learning to stand, balance and trust the brake. Guests in Madeira regularly tell us it clicked faster than they expected.
Falls are uncommon because we control the speed and start on flat, quiet ground, but full safety gear is provided and worn from the first minute. Your guide rides with you the whole way and adjusts the route pace to the least confident rider in the group. Nobody is pushed beyond their comfort level.
The minimum age is 14 years old for both the Coastal Tour and the Mountain Tour. Riders under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian on the same booking. Teenagers usually pick up the board faster than adults — the tours work well as a family activity with older kids.
You need to be able to stand comfortably for the duration of the ride, but the board does the work — there is no pedalling, pushing or climbing involved. Guests across a wide range of ages and fitness levels ride with us in Madeira regularly. The tours are not recommended if you have back problems, heart conditions, or are pregnant.
Yes, and you should tell your guide before you start. Speed is entirely under your control through the handheld remote — you decide how fast you go, and the guide will hold the group pace to whatever you are comfortable with. The Coastal Tour from Praia Formosa is the gentler of the two routes if you are unsure.
Yes, when it is run properly. Every Eboard Madeira Adventures tour includes mandatory training before departure, full safety gear, a professional guide riding alongside you, and insurance. We control the group speed and the route, and we cap sessions at three riders to keep the attention on each rider. The safety briefing is not a formality here — it is the reason beginners can do this at all.
Full safety gear is provided and included in the price of both tours — helmet plus knee, elbow and wrist protection, fitted to you before the briefing. You do not need to bring or buy anything. Insurance is also included in both the Coastal Tour and the Mountain Tour in Madeira.
It depends on the route. The Coastal Tour runs mostly on the Funchal coastal promenade and quiet seafront sections between Praia Formosa and Câmara de Lobos. The Mountain Tour uses the ER103, a wide, low-traffic mountain road through the pine forest, where your guide leads the line and a support vehicle follows the group.
Yes. Insurance is included in the price of both the Coastal Tour and the Mountain Tour, alongside the professional guide, board rental and full safety gear. There are no compulsory extras to pay on the day when you book with Eboard Madeira Adventures.
The Coastal Tour is a ride from Praia Formosa to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos, with ocean viewpoints and a relaxed pace — best for couples, photos and first-timers, at €85 per adult. The Mountain Tour drops in at about 1,400 m and flows down the ER103 through pine forest, with more altitude, more curves and more adrenaline, at €99 per adult.
The Coastal Tour meets at Praia Formosa in Funchal at 14h30 and runs approximately 2h to 2h30, riding the coast to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos and back. It includes your guide, the 3,000W board, full safety gear, insurance, photo stops at coastal viewpoints, and GoPro photos and video of your ride.
The route runs from Praia Formosa in Funchal along the coastal promenade to Câmara de Lobos, the traditional fishing village that Winston Churchill famously painted. You stop at ocean-cliff viewpoints for photos, spend time in the village harbour, and then ride the coast back to Praia Formosa with your guide.
The Mountain Tour is a private ride down the ER103 through the Funchal Ecological Park at altitude, lasting approximately 2h to 2h30. It includes pickup in central Funchal and the transfer up and back, your guide, the 3,000W board, full safety gear, insurance, panoramic viewpoint stops, and GoPro photos and video of your ride.
The Mountain Tour rides the legendary ER103 from the Poiso area through the Funchal Ecological Park, descending through fragrant pine forest with stops at the BBQ miradouro and panoramic viewpoints, finishing above the paragliding launch zone. Dropping in at roughly 1,400 m, you are frequently riding above the cloud line.
Choose the Coastal Tour if you want the ocean, Câmara de Lobos and the best photos — it is the most approachable first ride in Madeira. Choose the Mountain Tour if you want altitude, longer descents, more curves and the sensation of riding above the clouds. Plenty of guests come back and do both.
Both the Coastal Tour and the Mountain Tour run approximately 2 hours to 2 hours 30 minutes door to door, including your safety briefing and 1-on-1 training session before you set off. The riding itself is broken up with viewpoint stops, so it is not two and a half hours of continuous standing.
Yes. Both Eboard Madeira Adventures tours are private — only your group rides. Sessions are capped at three riders per guide. Larger groups can be arranged on request over WhatsApp. Private groups are the reason we can adapt the pace to each rider rather than to an average.
The Coastal Tour meets at Praia Formosa in Funchal at 14h30. The Mountain Tour starts with pickup in central Funchal, then a transfer up to the Poiso / ER103 drop-in point, with the start time agreed at booking. You receive the exact meeting location and your guide’s phone number by WhatsApp when you book.
Wear comfortable closed shoes — trainers are ideal, no sandals or flip-flops. Bring sunscreen and a light jacket, especially for the Mountain Tour, where the weather at 1,400 m can change quickly. Everything else is provided: the board, helmet and full protective gear. Leave heavy bags behind.
Tours in Madeira are guided in English and Portuguese. If you would prefer another language, message Eboard Madeira Adventures on WhatsApp before booking and we will tell you honestly whether we can accommodate it on your date.
Yes — GoPro photos and video of your ride are included in the price of both tours, at no extra cost. Your guide carries the cameras and captures the route, the viewpoints and your riding, so you are not trying to film yourself while learning to balance.
Sessions run in light cloud and wind — Madeira microclimates mean a grey coast often sits under clear mountain sky. If a route is closed or inaccessible because of weather, road works or events, we run an equally epic alternative route. If conditions are unsafe we reschedule at no extra cost, and a full refund is offered when neither option works for you.
For the Mountain Tour, pickup in central Funchal and the transfer to the ER103 start point are included in the price. For the Coastal Tour, hotel pickup in the Funchal area is available on request — message us on WhatsApp with your hotel when you book and we will confirm it for your date.
The Coastal Tour is €85 per adult and the Mountain Tour is €99 per adult when booked directly through eboardmadeira.pt. Prices include your guide, the 3,000W board, full safety gear, insurance and GoPro photos and video. Booking direct is the cheapest channel — resale platforms add their own commission on top.
You can book directly at eboardmadeira.pt, which is the cheapest option, using the booking button on each tour card, or message Eboard Madeira Adventures on WhatsApp at +351 938 933 069 to check availability first. The tours are also listed on the major resale platforms, at their commission-inclusive prices.
They suit different travellers. A jeep tour covers the most ground and requires nothing of you physically. An e-bike tour gives you distance and exercise. An e-board tour covers less ground but gives you the strongest sensation of movement — closest to snowboarding on asphalt — and is the most photogenic of the three. Pick by feeling, not by itinerary length.
Most sunset options in Madeira are passive — a catamaran, a viewpoint, a restaurant terrace. The Coastal Tour is the active alternative: you ride the coast from Praia Formosa to Câmara de Lobos through the late-afternoon light, stopping at viewpoints, and finish in the fishing village as the sun drops. Suitable for complete beginners.
It depends what you want from it. If you are looking to see the maximum number of landmarks in a day, a jeep or bus tour will do that better. If you want one thing from your trip to Madeira that you could not have done at home and will still be talking about a year later, this is that thing.
Private sessions, max 2 riders. One quick WhatsApp and your spot is locked.
